Dubai: Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has called on all Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the crescent of the month of Shawwal on Tuesday evening, Ramadan 29, 1442 H, which corresponds to May 11, 2021, local media reported.

If the moon is seen with the eye, the committee will announce the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid Al Fitr.

According to a tweet by the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the public holidays on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE will be from Ramadan 29 until Shawwal 3. This means residents benefit from a long weekend.

These will be paid holidays for private and public sector employees.

Eid Al Fitr is a celebration, which marks the end of Ramadan. From its name ‘Fitr’ (breakfast), it is a celebration of ending a whole month of fasting for Muslims.

Roughly translated, Eid Al Fitr means the “festival of ending the fast” and it is marked by a special prayer on the morning of the first of Shawwal.
