Man charged with killing driver and injuring his ex-girlfriend

A crazed ex-boyfriend was charged with murder after he rammed his car into a vehicle carrying his ex-girlfriend — killing the driver and seriously injuring his ex, cops and reports said.

Daniel Robert Adams, 36, of rural Mountain Home, Arkansas, was charged with intentionally crashing his car into and killing Philip Laurie, 30, also of Mountain Home, who had been driving  with Danielle Lamphear, 24, according to court documents.

Adams reportedly sent Laurie’s car airborne, when he barreled into the back of the car after a high-speed chase, which knocked it into a ditch and launched it vertically into the air.

Mid-air, the car struck a tree, killing Laurie and injuring Lamphear before rolling over, ultimately landing upright, according to an affidavit, obtained by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Just after 3:30 on Oct. 6 police received a call from Lamphear who told dispatchers she was being chased by Adams and that he had rammed Laurie’s car, according to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery.

“I just left him, and he is chasing me right now,” Lamphear told the dispatcher, according to the affidavit.

Her screams were so loud that much of the recorded audio cut in and out, Investigator George Edings wrote in the affidavit.

“We are in a ditch,” Lamphear tells the dispatcher at one point before adding, “I can’t get away from him.”

Lamphear can be heard screaming before her call goes silent. She can be heard screaming in pain as the dispatcher tries to make contact with her, the affidavit says.

A male’s voice believed to be Adams can then be heard asking her “Danielle are you alright?”

Three minutes after police dispatched officers to the area, police stumbled upon the two vehicles that had crashed that matched Lamphear’s description, Sheriff Montgomery said.

Adams was arrested at the scene.

The couple had fought earlier in the day at Adam’s residence where Lamphear had stayed up until the day of the crash, the affidavit says. Her things were packed to leave when Laurie and she arrived in his 2011 Ford Focus.

Adams, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Truck, chased the two from his property at high speeds, forcing Laurie’s car to spin out and lose control before getting back on the road.

Investigators determined from physical evidence that Adams, who was driving with a suspended license, rammed the car at least two more times, one of which pushed both vehicles off road again.

Adams was charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and four counts of aggravated assault.

Adams was booked at the Baxter County Detention Center but was transferred to the Boone County Detention Center because Laurie’s mother works at the Baxter County prison.

His bond has been set at $500,000. He will appear in court later this month, the sheriff’s office said.
