Singh promises $5K rental support for Canadian families if elected – National

Fewer than 30 new COVID-19 cases reported in Waterloo Region for 3rd straight day

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says his party will provide $5,000 in rental support for families if he is elected prime minister in this year’s federal election.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Singh also said he’ll enact a foreign ownership tax of 20 per cent on housing, adding that his party will ensure 500,000 affordable homes are built within the next ten years.

“I’ve met so many people that are being forced to leave the communities that they live in because they can’t find something that’s in their budget,” he said.

“This is a serious problem and we’ve got to tackle it.”

More to come.
