President Biden starts his day lifting weights before sipping orange Gatorade in the Oval Office — bumping Diet Coke as the presidential beverage of choice, according to a new report.
Biden, 78, “begins his mornings with a workout that often includes lifting weights, and he meets regularly in person with a trainer,” according to the Washington Post.
The president proceeds onto the Oval Office, where orange Gatorade is enjoyed with lunch — or even on the run in a lunch bag.
“He has the tastes of a 5-year-old,” a Biden adviser told the paper.
For lunch, Biden reportedly favors soup and a chopped salad with grilled chicken, either with orange Gatorade or a Coke Zero — displacing former President Donald Trump’s Diet Coke, for which he installed a special button on the Resolute Desk.
Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) told the paper that Biden will take lunch with him on the go between meetings in “not quite a lunch pail, but it’s his little bag of stuff, so if he gets peckish in a meeting he can have something healthy.”
Coons said the “healthy” presidential lunch sack can contain protein bars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a smaller travel-size orange Gatorade.
It’s unclear to what extent Biden’s White House aides sought to put out the information about his habits. As the oldest officeholder, Biden’s alleged lack of stamina has been a soft point for his political foes — including Trump, who is weighing a 2024 rematch.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday declined to confirm details about Biden’s habits in response to a question at her daily press briefing.
“I have nothing to read out on the president’s private exercise regime. But I can tell you, having traveled with him a fair amount: sometimes he’s hard to keep up with,” Psaki said.
