Judge under investigation for caught-on-video rant over his parking spot

An Arkansas judge is under investigation following a caught-on-video spat with a former state lawmaker — over the jurist’s parking spot outside the courthouse, according to reports.

Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren was recorded blowing up at former Arkansas House Speaker Davy Carter outside the Bentonville Courthouse — with the judge, who was wearing a gun, angrily hurling his cane to the ground at one point.

That footage caught the attention of the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, which said Monday it is probing the judge’s conduct, KFSM-TV reported.

Carter, who served in the state legislature from 2009 to 2015, shared the video on Twitter after the incident but later deleted it.

The beef began around 7 p.m. Friday when Carter met his wife and son for dinner at The Hive, a local restaurant — with his son inadvertently parking in the judge’s space, according to the North Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Carter said the judge became livid despite the ex-lawmaker’s apology and explanation that his son parked there because the space was marked, “reserved 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.”

“I understand,” he’s heard on the video telling the judge. “I understand. He’s my son.”

“I don’t care,” the judge shot back.

The incident ended without violence, as a bailiff stepped in and calmed things down — but Carter was still fired up the following day and took to social media.

“Rabid, insane behavior,” he said on Twitter. “Unfitting for a good citizen much less a sitting circuit judge. Mr. Karren, you owe my wife and son an apology. You should be embarrassed. You are unfit to be on the bench.”

“And you’re lucky I was in a good mood,” Carter added in a follow-up post.

Karren declined to comment to the Democrat-Gazette.
