A Florida high-school senior tried to escape her burning car after she drove over a downed power line in a storm — only to be fatally electrocuted when she stepped on the live wire, authorities and witnesses say.

Valentina “Val” Tomashosky, 17, died in the horrific scene in Spring Hill — about an hour north of Tampa — around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, according to authorities

The teen and her Dodge Avenger first avoided a fallen tree on the road, but instead drove over a power line the timber had brought down with it.

The driver’s side of her car then caught fire, according to ClickOrlando.

“The father had come over to our area and yelled, ‘That’s my daughter in the car!’ ” recalled witness Maria Patchon to an ABC-TV affiliate.

“I look over. I saw that car coming down the road. You could see the whole driver’s side was engulfed.”

The witness said a male neighbor ran toward the burning vehicle to try to help pull the teen from it — but “he got shocked as he tried to step into the water.”

Tomashosky was then getting herself out of the vehicle through the passenger side door, when she stepped on the live wire and was fatally electrocuted, authorities said.

“Even when the police arrived, they couldn’t get out of [their] vehicles, the power was still live,” Patchon said. “It was devastating to watch.”

The teen was supposed to graduate from Central High School in Hernando County on June 8 and planned to attend a local college to study forensics, reports said.
