Mariachi band plays at Ted Cruz’s home amid Mexico backlash

¡Ay, caramba!

A mariachi band showed up Sunday outside Sen. Ted Cruz’s home to try and drive him a little loco after his widely condemned jaunt to Cancun, Mexico.

The three musicians — wearing sombreros and charro outfits — filled the air with the traditional music, most notably the staccato sounds of a very loud trumpet, according to a video on Twitter shown on WTRF.

Adam Jama, of Carrollton, Texas, set up a GoFundMe page for the band to rattle the embattled pol — and have donations go to Texas Children’s Hospital.

“Senator Cruz, being an amazing dad, dropped off his family in Cancun in the middle of a major crisis and came back to Texas to continue serving his constituents. We want to thank Senator Cruz for his leadership and pay for an amazing Mariachi band to perform for him. No one should go to Cancun and not listen to Mariachi,” reads the apparently tongue-in-cheek page, which raised $300 of its $1,000 goal.

One woman donated $25 “in memory of Ted Cruz.”

The post on Twitter garnered mixed reactions, with several people expressing misgivings about protesting outside his Houston home with the impromptu performance.

“If I’m honest I’m not sure how I feel about this. No doubt @SenTedCruz
deserves this,” one user wrote. “However his children are his pawns and the ones he throws under the bus. Nonetheless they are blameless and should not be subjected to harassment even if it’s funny.”

Another wrote: “Not a great idea if his kids are home, they can’t help it that their father is Ted Cruz.”

A third mentioned Cruz’s poor pup, which he left alone in the home as he headed to the warm getaway during the winter storm that clobbered his state.

“Snowflake loves mariachi music,” the user said.

On Sunday, Cruz was in full damage control mode as he released photos of himself on Twitter delivering water and meeting with Texans amid the controversy.

Cruz flew back to Houston on Thursday, a day after he and his family were photographed boarding a jet for Cancun and text messages from his wife, Heidi, revealed they told friends they were abandoning the “FREEZING” weather and heading to the swanky Ritz-Carlton resort.

At first, he said he was just escorting his daughters and their pals on the flight and planned to return immediately, but later admitted that he planned to stay there with his family until Saturday.
