UP: Gonda priest staged attack on himself to frame rivals, grab land, say cops | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: With the arrest of seven persons on Saturday, the Gonda police claimed to have worked out October 10 attack on Samrat Das, the priest of Ram Janaki temple. According to police, Samarat Das staged the attack on himself as he wanted to frame on Amar Singh and grab his 120 bigha land.
The arrested accused have been identified as Munna Singh, Vipin, Neeraj Singh, Sonu Singh, Mahant Sitaram, Shivshankar Singh and Vinay Kumar. They were arrested on the basis of surveillance and local inputs from Haridwar Singh Bagh in Tiremanoranma village under Ithiyathok police station, police said.
Gonda police chief Shailesh Dubey said that Samrat Das was in hospital after sustaining injury and would be arrested after being discharged.
Police also recovered countrymade pistols from possession of Sonu Singh, Mahant Sitaram and Munna Singh. Munna Singh had shot at priest Samrat Das on October 10, police said. After being hit, Das had alleged that Amar Singh, along with three others, had attacked him while he was sleeping inside the temple.
Gonda SP Pandey said that Samrat Das had wanted to frame Amar Singh to grab 120 bigha land. Pandey said that during the probe, it surfaced that there was a dispute between Mahant Sitaram Das and Amar Singh over 120 bigha land. It also come to fore that one of those arrested Vinay Kumar was planning to contest the upcoming panchayat elections against Amar Singh. “The duo made a nefarious plot to frame Amar Singh,” he said.
As per plan, Munna, Sonu, Neeraj were to attack Samrat Das in such a manner that he survives. On the intervening night of October 10 and 11, they attacked Samrat. While the trio were escaping, a home guard keeping a watch on the temple also spotted them, the officer said.
Later, Samrat had named Amar Singh, Mukesh Singh, Bhayharan Singh and Daroga Singh for the attack, on the basis of which an FIR was registered against them. Police also had arrested Daroga and Bhayharan on the same day. Now, they would be released.
