Automakers crank up business ahead of festivities

NEW DELHI: The festive season is right here and the automakers have been notching up the celebrations to make sure they don’t miss out on anything when the Indian consumers finally step out to spend after a gloomy phase. The Indian auto industry has been spoiling the audience with back-to-back launches for some time, but this week was a little more exciting.
Launches of the week
This week was loaded with launches in all segments and in all forms. Brand-new luxury offerings Audi Q2 (Rs 34.99 lakh-Rs 48.89 lakh), Land Rover Defender (Rs 73.98 lakh-Rs 90.40 lakh) and the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (Rs 39.30 lakh-Rs 41.40 lakh) took the spotlight this week. The Q2 and the 2 Series Gran Coupe are both trying to bridge the gap between their brands and the common man, with the quite affordable price tag. The Defender, on the other hand, is a good offering if you’re looking to splurge this season.

While some automakers had totally new offerings to bring, some chose to revamp their existing products in the market to keep up with the competition. Volkswagen brought launched the new Red and White editions of the Polo (Rs 9.19 lakh) and the Vento (Rs 11.49 lakh), offering a refreshed colour scheme to the customers. Its EV subsidiary, Hero Electric also launched the new City Speed line-up (Rs 57,560) by tweaking the range and performance of its existing portfolio.
